Native Instruments Reaktor 5
By FutureProducers User Reviews on 10/30/2008 at 18:46

Getting Started
Features are great. 6 Drum computers, 10 synth's, 6 sequencers, and much much more make this program worth every penny. I've even started using the Reaktor effects as plug-in's because they sound better than most moderately priced pi's on the market.

Price paid: $450

Calling up presets and playing right of the bat is easy. But getting down to the nitty gritty and realizing the true genius of Reaktor takes some time. There are great core tutorials that will open some huge doors as far as usability goes. My only beef is that you can't used pro tools as a sequencer, but Cubase will work for that.
Suitability/Performance
The best sounding synth software out there! Hands down. I've tried Reason, Sampletank, even used a buddies Motif for a couple days, and kept going back to Reaktor. The quality of sound is amazing, and the ability to fidget with the structure of each synth is beyond compare to anything else. Every nuance of each synth, whether it's a drum machine, sound generator, sequencer or effect patch is completely controllable. You can actually enter the core design of each sunth and move wires around, change types of eq's, change compressors, basically, anything you want. It's got amazing sound quality.

This is the most well built program I've used. It sucks up quite a bit of CPU, but the results are well worth it.
Overall Opinion
Absolutely got nothin but love for Reaktor, it's opened some crazy production doors that just weren't possible before this program. Thank god for native instruments.

Native Instruments Reaktor 4.x

Oh if you really know how to use this program the featurea are incredable you will have to see for yourself its un explanible

The Usability of this program is HORRIBLE You would have to learn math and much more in order to use this program to its full potential I would have to give it a 2 because this program is far from those spoon fed programs you use. if you don't know how to use reason and wanna skip to reaktor.... Guess again before you blow your money, and if you don't even know how to use FL Studio then don't read this review at all.
Suitability/Performance
Basically you will have to go through vigorous learing in order to get a sound out of this program. If you have time and patience you will be able to have good production sounf and quality. I gave it a 5 because of the learning curve which literally blows the SH** out of people.
Overall Opinion
I Love this program you just have to grow with it in order to use it to its full potential.

Pretty much perfect, cept you can't assign CCs to a controller for things like cutoff, etc. Though some such CCs are mapped to the mod-wheel.

price paid: $150 USD

Again most CCs aren't mapable, so it requires mouse tweaking, which sucks IMO.

It's a soft synth so it all really depends on your processing power, etc. Definitely got good enough sound though.

Like I said before, I love it, nuff said.

Native Instruments Elektrik Piano
By FutureProducers User Reviews on 10/30/2008 at 18:41

Getting Started
The features are pretty good. There are different parameters that you can adjust per preset that you load. Cool to get a variety, but sometimes you want certain effects on other presets. Not difficult to work around though since you can process it later.

price paid: $125

This is very easy to use and navigate with. I've had no problems finding what I need.
Suitability/Performance
The sound quality is really impressive. I haven't used any other "quality" rhodes plug-ins but this has the exact smoothness I've been looking for. I do seem to get a bit of artifacts though, although i'm running over the recommended PC components to run this.

As i mentioned before, I still get artifacts when using this but it's not too much of a problem with the style of music I do. HOWEVER.. I'm having major problems having this export correctly. I can make a song and everything will play beautifully minus the occassional barely noticeable artifact... but when exporting, the whole song will export fine and most of the elektrik piano part will export too. It cuts out though!! I've mainly noticed it cuts out whenever the piano has to sustain at any reasonable length. It may be a chord that sustains 3/4 of a beat and on the last quarter note it will cut out abruptly. I've been troubleshooting this for days now and I cant get customer support from NI because their site is down at the moment. Even when the site was up, the links to their product support dont seem to load. Not sure whats up with this, but this product would be amazing if this little part was fixed.
Overall Opinion
I would give this a 10 if the above was resolved somehow.

Native Instruments B4
By FutureProducers User Reviews on 10/30/2008 at 18:39

Getting Started
To fully utilize the B4 a pedal board would have to be used. Since most people don't have or desire to obtain one certain chord voicings become difficult. This is a minor gripe because it only applies to live application and doesn't pose much a problem for studio work.

price paid: $240

The interface is exactly what you would expect from a Hammond organ. Drawbar settings, percussion switches, and tone controls are all created well here so the organ feels familiar. None of these features being strictly cosmetic which makes this instrument a spectacular investment. It can be played in two modes. The default is the organ view as if you're sitting at the organ viewing the drawbars and the keys (even the pedal board). The second only shows the drawbars for those who have no need of seeing the entire instrument.
Suitability/Performance
This is absolutely the best organ I've ever heard. I played this virtual B4 next to a Hammond B3 and was surprised that this sounded significantly better! Native Instruments really did their homework in creating this VI. They've even included nuances like distortion. The Leslie effect is amazing. When programming with this it even sounds better when its played back.

This product alone made me want to purchase everything Native Instruments makes! If they do their research this well on all of their tools they will be around for a very long time.
Overall Opinion
I take this with me when I travel because none of the organs I play sound close to this. It's become a necessity for every gig and gives my studio work an authentic feel.

Native Instruments Absynth 3
By FutureProducers User Reviews on 10/30/2008 at 18:38

Getting Started
Nothing missing except a drive knob, which I really wanted.

Price paid: 399$

VERY difficult to use and learn. This synth is a behemoth and I recommend it only for people willing to put in some long hours figuring it out. Again, this is the bucephalus of softsynths, it may be hard to ride but once you master it you can make it do ANYTHING.
Suitability/Performance
Sound quality is supurb. Pretty much the finest DIGITAL sound you can get in a softsynth. The key here is the customization and freedom of design. Put those to use and you can make absynth sound like whatever you want.

Hasn't crashed yet.
Overall Opinion
I'm beginning to love it, but nothing passionate. This baby takes some time and TLC hehe

Native Instruments Absynth 4
By afterglow479 on 10/05/2008 at 15:23

Getting Started
It installed without incident. Total installation time was maybe 10 minutes, so it's pretty quick. You'll have to register your serial number and make sure your DAW program knows you have a new plug installed. The configuration is very easy after the installation. All you really have to worry about is making sure your MIDI controller is going in through the right channel in order to control this soft synth. The manual is very lengthy and detailed, actually to a fault. I think the detail they provide would go over most people's heads, because it gets down to the nitty gritty of synth technology.
Suitability/Performance
I have a custom built PC. It has Windows XP and I am running Cubase as my DAW platform. The hardware is based on an Intel dual core processor with 4GB of RAM. Absynth works perfectly fine on my system. It is installed in the VST format. The CPU efficiency is very good. Even when it's playing a complicated sounding synth part, this program never seems to cause more than maybe 3% of my CPU overhead to be used. Compared with other synth plug-ins that is very good. It is very stable, it hasn't crashed.
Overall Opinion
I got Absynth about 6 months ago even though it's been out for a long time. I had been using other synths for a while and I wanted to try out something new that is more customizable. That is really the key word with this software - customization. The amount that you can edit sounds is incredible. You can basically build up your own synth sound from scratch with the tools that you are given. It is a little bit overwhelming, so people new to synthesis will probably want to stick to the presets for a while (which all sound very good, by the way). But after getting the hang of it, you can start to build your own patches. If you are into customizing your synth sounds, then this is the program for you. Highly recommended.
